Mini Jib Test Shoot: On the 15th of November, we went out to shoot autumn colours on a piece of equipment called a jib. The jib allows the camera to move from Worm’s-eye view to Bird’s-eye view and vice versa. We went down by the river to shoot some footage so that we would get the morning sunlight reflecting off of the water. At first, it was tricky getting the balance right on the equipment because the camera weighed more than the handle bar. We figured out eventually that it would look better if we lowered the camera very slowly due to the fact that it would be easier to keep the camera stable, if we wanted the footage to have a fast transition, we would speed it up in post-production. If I were to shoot this project again I would want there to be a clearer storyline so that editing all the pieces together wouldn’t be as confusing. How to get a better understanding of a project: The main purpose of a research project is to gain a wide range of information that can lead to further comers of a field of your thesis. Doing extensive research during a project can be very difficult, especially doing both Primary and Secondary research. "A research paper presents an original thesis, or purpose statement, about a topic and develops that thesis with information gathered from a variety of sources". Primary: 'Research that you conduct yourself' Secondary: 'Research that you find from another source' Because there a lot of different types of primary and secondary research, a way to get a lot of useful research done will be to do four of each. The point of having a good logo is to get a point across to the target audience. The reason that I have picked these particular logos is because the company has used illusion. They are also going to be more memorable. As you can see, the one on the right is for beats headphones, from a normal point of view the logo looks like a "B". But from another perspective it looks like someone wearing the beats.  The second logo I have chosen is for LG phone company, again they have used the letters "L" and "G" which is the name of their brand yet if you look closer you see a face. They have used a deep red for the colour because it doesn't stand out to much that it would seem like an eye saw but it actually makes it more pleasing to the eye. The logo for Amazon really stood out to me because it looks very basic and not that pleasing to the eye, but as you can see, the only thing in colour is the arrow going from "A" to "Z". This...

Future Suki, I hope that you are now comfortable in your body and that you have been going to the gym regularly. I know that you will still be wanting to get out of bath but just stick it out for another month or so, I hope that you are still wanting to be an actress, I know that you will be amazing at it. Throughout this entire assignment I worked on my script, treatment, call sheet, concept art etc. I research concept art as part of my primary research, and edited a still from the film to make it look like a promotion poster. For my script I only needed to create lines for the scenes where there is talking heads and for he scenes without dialogue, I added stage directions. 

During the first 2 weeks of this project I have been focusing on the context. In the first week I focused on completing the presentation for my pitch and the feedback. I pitched the main idea for my film, I then wrote a a feedback blog listing the things that i'm going to need to work on before starting my FMP. I also storyboarded my ideas on paper then scanned them in and annotated them, I prioritised my production plan so that I knew what I was doing each week, unfortunately I didn't manage to stick to it towards the end due to a equipment fault. I also made sure that I did the statement of intent in the first four weeks of my project so that I knew what path I was going down. I also talked about the three project ideas n a blog in the first week.   

As I was shooting the talking head scene, the microphone was plugged into the camera and the camera was on. It has recently come to my attention that my audio didn't record and the sound over all of the scenes was white noise. The on-cam mic that I used was called "RODE VideoMic Pro-R Microphone". Me and my assistant director (Lily James)couldn't pin point what had gone wrong.  We first: Looked through the audio settings on the camera Booked out exact copy of the microphone, recorded  another video and played it back. It turns out that the Mic that we booked out in the first place was  broken due to damage or breakage. We first knew that it had broke due to the fact that the "ON" button was missing even though when we plugged it in it was green.  What am I going to do about it? I recently pitched my film idea. I got quite a few valid points of feedback:  Cast and Crew:  In my pitch, I mentioned that I would have four cast members. Three antagonists and one protagonist. At the time I had no idea who I wanted to cast, I knew that I wanted adult actors to play the parents of the teenager instead of people of the same age as me because I wanted it to have a realistic effect on the audience. I had a total of 4 people working behind the scenes of the film that helped with filming and script writing.  Documenting the process: Over the the past couple of months I have been Vlogging, researching and blogging about my experience with creating the film. Jo mentioned that this would really important, I did four sets of Primary and Secondary research. The research that helped me the mot out of the eight was the mockumentary research as I saw the kind of view points and camera angles that were included within mockumentaries such as "This Country" and "...

It has come to my attention that I have not blogged about my process during my FMP of yet, the final weeks are approaching and I have completed all of my research and context. I am yet to edit the Vlogs where I talk about the process of filming, how my research has helped me along the way and so on. I have not completed my film as my cast members have been flooded with work of there own (and the weather has been appalling). I am going to shoot the final scenes on Friday the 4th of May and get all my editing finished before the 8th. So that I can move on to the evaluation part of my FMP.

Down bellow I will list the reasons why they helped me and the ideas that I have had since conducting the research.  Film posters  Editing experimentation Technique research Mockumentaries Book analysis Vox Pop Music analysis survey and review Film Posters: By researching different film posters from the 70's and 80's, it has helped me in designing my own concept art/film poster for the mockumentary. I want my poster to reflect purity, youth and kindness which is why I will stick to three main colour schemes, Orange, pink and blue. For the image itself, I want it to be in black and white with the title and tagline in different colours. Certain magazines have inspired me (image wise) for my poster as most of the photos are very clean and raw which, to me suggests that they are uncovering the truth and that intrigues the reader to look inside the magazine and thats exactly what I want with my film.  ...

Before the release of the film I want to create a 70's style film poster for "Youth are Revolting". I want to combine both of these ideas and make my poster more like an art piece but then still have the relevant information that is needed. I want the font to be daring and bright as I want to emphasise that it is a poster for a film.In my opinion, the layout should be very simple or unique such  as these  posters: This film poster has a lot going on. Yet the style is still very simple as it doesn't have clashing colours or really bold fonts. I feel like the posters from the 60's and 50's looked more like art then something there to promote a film.  This poster rightly describes the contents of the film. The blue and pink reflect innocence and melancholy which are the two different sides to the main character. A poster like this will really draw the audience in because just by looking at this poster, you will not expect the film to be in black and wh...

For my final major project, I came up with three Ideas. All the ideas are short films. I was planning on doing A horror mystery, a mockumentary and music video.  For part of my research, I put together three mood boards. One for each initial idea.   Music Video: For the music video, I would use my friends band as the muse, they are named "The Swings" and their genre of music is alternative/rock. I would use a variation of P.O.V shots and pan shots. I would get them to perform one of there original songs, originally I wanted to film the video in their rehearsal space but I thought that if i did P.O.V shots of what the band members see, it would be better to do it to a live audience.  Mockumentary: I am planning to create a mockumentary on the stereotypes of teenagers I would get three actors to play the mother, father and teacher and start the film with talking heads of the adults explain what they think their daughter/son is doing such as "they are p...

For my film, I really want to use the "washed out" or "milky" cinematography that you see in movies nowadays and back in the 60's and 70's. It includes very high contrasted shots and focuses on certain colours in the scene. I've always liked the idea of having a very atmospheric film but including brightly coloured titles to add more of a grounding effect. In the photo bellow, there seems to be a very high contrast with four star colours include brown, white, blue and silver. They compliment each other well as they are in the  tetradic colour scheme which means that there is a balance of rich and cool tones. For my film the key themes are Youth, Beauty, Relaxation and Nature. The colours that represent those four are orange, pink, blue and green. The magazines that I have based my look book on are: I.D. Wonderland Dazed and Confused  All of them kind of have the same style and layout. The front covers are all very graphic, I love how the actual portrait on the front cover would genuinely be quite simplistic and low in colour but they all reflect the interviews, reviews and style that is in the magazine. Wonderland:  Normally the cover is full of graphics, subtitles, Images and even the barcode at times. For me I think that there is way too much going on each cover but it reflects the inside of the magazine.    I.D: on every single cover of i.d, the muse is winking. Its so obvious that no one ever notices it. The muse is normally in the centre of the cover looking straight at the camera.  Dazed and confused: You alway see the muses full body on the cover of this magazine and they focus more on the clothing then anything. This is essential for a lookbook. 

These are my first draft pages from my lookbook, as you can see they are almost the same as the final piece but I had to include a lot more information and add prices to the outfits.  I also added a paragraph to every page of my magazine describing the film the outfit was based on, why I dressed them in those specific items of clothing etc. For the prices I added arrows pointing to the items of clothing suggesting alternative stores and prices. I had to make the photos look better quality when they got printed so I had to export them from photoshop first and then edit them on InDesign.  This is the first draft page that I created, I couldn't find a transparent of the title and I ended up having to find the original font and create a title similar to the one from the film.  In the end, I added a grain to the photograph to make the muse blend in with the background slightly more.     This is the last page that I edited, I made the image black...

For research on our look book, we got sent on a scavenger hunt to find different catalogues and look books from different shops. We went to cosmetic stores and clothing shops to scout for different magazines.    Catalogue:  Catalogues are often very lengthy and full of items, they are often categorised into different groups such as kitchen appliances, home decor, bedroom etc. Differences that you will find in a catalogue compared to a lookbook are...     Prices are low limited text photos themes Products would be split into categories   Lookbook: A lookbook includes more outfit inspiration rather then different products that you can buy with in the store, in look books they give you themes such as outfits for winter, a night out or an outfit for a night out during the winter. They will still list the prices, sizes and have been split into categories etc. But this is what makes it different to a catalogue.   Full outf...

21/02/18 Today I presented my FMP, let me just say that there are a lot of things that I can improve on. For my film one f the things that I wanted to incorporate a 70's sort of vibe because that is very on trend with teens at this point in time. Also, it resembles and pays a classic image to Instagram as the filters are very aesthetic and washed out.  I would also like to put together a full production plan by the end of next week. I will film the talking heads first as the set is located in a studio setting. It will be a lot easier to get voice overs before I shoot the film itself so that if I edit the script, I can alter the film.  For the beginning of my film, I will write a short paragraph explaining what the film is based on and how I interviewed parents on the subject.  Improvements:  Jo mentioned that when I will be conducting my viewing and feedback that I would have to include lecturers in that as well as just students. Was my project successful? If not, why? It had a very good story line at the beginning but as it progressed I didn't understand it. It was mainly do to the actor improvising the script when it wasn't necessary.  I loved the colour tint on the film especially at the beginning when they are sitting opposite each other  and the sunlight was seeping through the blinds. the blue colour really adds a positive effect on the film.  I really enjoyed the title sequence when it fades into the main title of "many a moon" and the music in the background seems like those sounds are coming from the forest. It has a lot of resemblance to the German TV series "Dark". So, therefore I thought it was successful What would you change about my film? I will be conducting both primary and secondary research for this assessment. I will be looking at directional styles research on complimentary colour schemes and lighting.  Primary Research: Re-watching films that have inspired me cinematography wise Look into the scripts of those films Research and test three point lighting and what will provide the best artificial natural light. Secondary research: Look into classic 70's style of filming as my film is set in the early 70's research concept art "film posters of the 70's" by Tony Nourmand look into directors such as Wes Anderson, Steven Spielberg and G uillermo del Toro Research symmetry in film   3 directional skills: Wes Anderson inclues symmetry in almost all of his films and has a wide range of pan shots which is the same as Guillermo del Toro. Steven Spielberg however uses dolly zooms to add a tense affect for the audience. 

Down bellow is my annotated script. I had to make a fair few adjustments due to location changes and difficulties. I could not shoot the final scene as my location and cast were not avalible. Also I could not get hold on the correct costumes that were necessary. However my cast members did improvise the scene were the doctor is explaining the symptoms to Cedric to make it into the time bracket.
