peer assessment

Was my project successful? If not, why? It had a very good story line at the beginning but as it progressed I didn't understand it. It was mainly do to the actor improvising the script when it wasn't necessary.  I loved the colour tint on the film especially at the beginning when they are sitting opposite each other  and the sunlight was seeping through the blinds. the blue colour really adds a positive effect on the film.  I really enjoyed the title sequence when it fades into the main title of "many a moon" and the music in the background seems like those sounds are coming from the forest. It has a lot of resemblance to the German TV series "Dark". So, therefore I thought it was successful What would you change about my film? I would most likely change the length of the film as well as add ending credits. As far as effects goes I wouldn't change it at all. What did/didn't you enjoy about it? I really liked the title sequence and t...

primary and secondary research

I will be conducting both primary and secondary research for this assessment. I will be looking at directional styles research on complimentary colour schemes and lighting.  Primary Research: Re-watching films that have inspired me cinematography wise Look into the scripts of those films Research and test three point lighting and what will provide the best artificial natural light. Secondary research: Look into classic 70's style of filming as my film is set in the early 70's research concept art "film posters of the 70's" by Tony Nourmand look into directors such as Wes Anderson, Steven Spielberg and G uillermo del Toro Research symmetry in film   3 directional skills: Wes Anderson inclues symmetry in almost all of his films and has a wide range of pan shots which is the same as Guillermo del Toro. Steven Spielberg however uses dolly zooms to add a tense affect for the audience.

annotated scripts

Image
Down bellow is my annotated script. I had to make a fair few adjustments due to location changes and difficulties. I could not shoot the final scene as my location and cast were not avalible. Also I could not get hold on the correct costumes that were necessary. However my cast members did improvise the scene were the doctor is explaining the symptoms to Cedric to make it into the time bracket.

Many A Moon: foley, Cinematography etc.

Foley: I didn't get to record Foley for my short film as there were no harsh sounds that needed emphasising as I had a on-cam mic attached. If I had I would have emphasised the sounds of the chair and the felt tip against white board. Cinematography: I picked a space In the collage that had filtered sun light seeping through into the room which in the end created a more eery atmosphere. I ended up tinting the film a very dark blue colour. List of sounds: These are the list of sounds that I wanted to include in my film footsteps coming up to the doctors office - Getting someone to walk across wooden floorboards leaves rustling in the forest - rustle the branches wind blowing - Go record this near a river  door opening and closing - Hold the mic really close to the door hinges and open the door  pen on whiteboard - Hold the mic really close to the felt tip dragging across the board.

Location scouting

Locations for filming: Browns folly:  For my film I have taken inspiration from tv series such as dark and stranger things. they both have a very eery atmosphere when it comes to cinematography and half of their productions are set in the woods.  Pros: eery caves (like the ones seen in Dark. it is high up so you get a lot of mist open space lots of trees Cons: muddy pathways, which was hard for me to plant a tripod Lots of members of the public. The weather the day I filmed wasn't great which made filming a lot harder and the film came out very dark. Collage classroom: In the film, I wanted to create a scientific setting by using a doctors office or a room in a lab. Yet I realised how difficult that would be as I didn't know of any science labs near Bath or Bristol and I might have to pay a price. Instead I was planning on converting half a classroom into a doctors office.  Pros: It would be easier to use camera equipment and li...

evaluation

Overall  I was very proud of my lookbook, I feel like my skills on photoshop and InDesign have improved a lot. In terms of improvement, I could've taken a photo that incorporated all aspects of the magazine and focused more on how it would have matched the colour scheme. If I were to do this project again I would have probably painted the front cover with either acrylic or oils to draw attention, I would have wanted to show how it was unique just by looking at the cover.  The overall time it took to complete each look book page was approximately 2-4 hours due to the amount of correcting and editing I had to do. If I had to re-construct my lookbook I would have made my design less complicated. Also, I would have used more models to add more diversity to the magazine. The Text on pace two could have been slightly darker as you cannot read most of it due to the colour of the background. As far as improvement is concerned, The portrait pictures could be of better quality and c...

spider diagram

Image
This is my spider diagram for my lookbook. I split it into for different categories as my ideas varied quite a lot.  Art Film Music Fashion In each one I had different ideas of ho I could turn one theme into a variation of different outfits, At first I wanted to do outfits that were associated with different musicians or artists. Yet I had more ideas for the outfits that reflect films. I included a lot of 80's films in my lookbook because the style back then was so distinctive so that the reader can instantly identify  the outfit without reading the description.

test shoot

these are the photos that didn't make it into my lookbook, I experimented with lighting and positioning through out these test shoots.

page ideas

These are my original ideas for pages in my look book,  I created a bunch of polyvores based on the characters of these onscreen franchises.

lookbook evaluation

Front Cover:  The image on the front of my magazine is from the "Life Aquatic" photoshoot I made the photo in black and white so that the logo and the background was emphasised. I wanted to make it bold but minimalistic at the same time. I stuck to three colours so that there was a simple correlation.  Page 2: The second page consists of a very bold background and minimalist text giving a brief explanation of what is included in the look book.  I used a complimentary colour scheme so that it was satisfying to the eye.   Page 3:  We have now entered the contents itself stating with the outfit inspired by Beetlejuice. In my eyes, this isn't the best looking page although It was the page that I spent the most time on. I included mini photographs of a polaroid and a book that was in the the movie to give a perfect homage to the film. I made the image of the model B&W so that the photo would look a bit more atmospheric. Page 4: The ...

animation

Image
This is my CPR animation, I feel like it needs to really improve.  I'm very unsure why the animation is in the top left corner and it has cut off a massive segment of the animation also. As far as this is concerned the animated hands were very hard to accomplish and I am very impressed with them. also the gif of the beating heart.  I used the pen tool quite a lot as half of my animation was in colour. I also used the text box and the "snap to objects" tool.

Tactile Cover

Image
This is my version of the "Tactile" cover.  I incorporated   the black and white aesthetic in with the painting and the nature. I feel like this represents the different artistic balances that are in the book. I chose royal blue for the font colour as the the cover gave me a Greek vibe.  Also with the hand caressing the plant goes with the verb Tactile.

the forest/the sun

The Forest We watched a very interesting animation about a young 12 year old girl that wanted to make the most out of life.  I feel like this short film was about how all the new technology and society can manipulate you at a young age. Overall i dis like the animation but there were some things that I would personally change. Such as the sound effects and the colour scheme as there wasn't a good correlation between the dark scenes and the happy scenes. The Sun The Sun was about the sun trying to burn up the population of the earth. It was very simple yet striking, It had a good colour scheme. The message behind it is that there is a good counter balance between day and night. I thought the music went with the theme of the film.
