Recently we had a series of people who work in the media industry give us the idea of how to get started and how the system works.

The panel included:

  • John Walker
    Senior Editor, Rock Paper Shotgun
  • Helen Harris
Film Liaison Officer, Bath Film Office.
  • Jane Zurakowski
    Production Manager.
  • Shari Robertshaw

Lucy is a freelance events manager, copywriter, marketing exec and community manager.
Firstly they all individually introduced themselves by stating their name and occupation. Then we got separated into 3 different groups depending on what job role we had in mind.

I got put into the group with several other people, we have Jane Zurakowski and Nev Pierce.

Interesting points that they made:

  • Nev told us about how he works free lance and sometimes struggles to gain motivation. He also told us about how he has to rely on himself to get the work done.
  • Jane made the point of how she started off doing the most simple job to gain experience within television. By starting off as a runner, she was able to move through the ranks and gain a great reputation.
  • Jane said to always be resilient and have confidence in yourself.
