Triptychs week 2

Last lesson I went into the studio next door to our classroom to test out the lighting that i was going to use for my triptychs. I decided that i wanted a cool tone the reflects sadness and isolation. For the fill light I used a blue tinted gel. I left the Key light white and tuned down the brightness to around half way. I didn't use a back light... (which was a mistake). As a result of this, the photos came out very dark and i really struggled to get the correct exposure on the camera. Before i am about to take the polaroids i will use a normal camera to get the correct brightness and lighting to make sure that i don't waste precious film.

For my actual Triptychs I was thinking about using a polaroid camera instead of a modern Canon camera so that it filters the contrast. I would still like to experiment different gel colours on the fill light so that i can get a contrast of 2 different colours.

For my triptychs, i have decided to take a full body portrait of  friend using 3 different shots. My first one will a close-up of the face and neck and it will be landscape, to achieve this i will have to hold the Polaroid at a very un natural angle. The second one will be a wide shot of their torso in portrait mode, i may have to move the key and fill lights back for this shot. Finally the third one will be a wide shot of their legs and shoes, I will also be making this one landscape.

I have researched what colour gel to use on my triptych by taking inspiration from certain films such as Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums" and Sophia Coppola's "The Virgin Suicides" as they both use a baby blue and pink aesthetic to convey empathy and melancholy.

This photo came out very dark at we covered both fill and key lights with a blue gel and a diffuser. In terms of the portrait itself, i would very much like the muse to be looking at the camera. Yet I would prefer it to be landscape.

This is pretty much the same lighting from the first photo yet the muse is at an angle so the half way shadow on my face is slightly off centre.
