My Silent Film
Today we started shooting for our silent film, the entire class watched several silent films starring Charlie Chaplin. So that sparked inspiration for all of us. As the film was silent, we had to add emphasis on certain aspects such as, the way that we portray comedic humour based on our facial expressions and body language.
By over exaggerating certain things we added over the top sound effects and music. The song used in the film was titled "fun in a bottle".
Our story line was based on a robbery of a ladies bag. We shot our first scene outside in direct sunlight so that we got the best natural lighting possible, then after the first four scenes we transitioned inside towards the staircase.

Our story line was based on a robbery of a ladies bag. We shot our first scene outside in direct sunlight so that we got the best natural lighting possible, then after the first four scenes we transitioned inside towards the staircase.
shots used:
- zoom shots
- close ups
- extreme close ups
- long shots
- point-of-view shot
The staircase was a major part of the film as that was where the chase scene was located, we positioned the tripod in three different locations on the staircase so that we could achieve the perfect shot. The first location was at the very bottom of the staircase, we tilted it upwards so that we could get shots of the rails as we see the hands being dragged across them. Then we actually placed the tripod so that it was looking all the way down the middle of the staircase which created an extreme long shot.
I sped up the duration speed on those particular scenes so that it was in time to the music and to add extra comedic humour. I also did it on most of the chase scenes so that the entire film went down to being a minute long.
For the colour and hue I added a slight blue tint and made the film black and white. I added text when necessary for example for the title, speech, narration and the ending.
